The Cuba High School football team was overmatched on Oct. 3 when they traveled to Crystal City to take on St. Pius X. St Pius led throughout and cruised to a 70-0 victory over the Wildcats.
Cuba was unable to get leading rusher Ethan Noltkamper going, and he was held to 21 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Senior quarterback Jesse Shireman couldn’t find his rhythm and completed two of eight pass attempts. Freshman backup quarterback Billie Thompson received some playing time, and completed both of his pass attempts. Cameron Carnal caught one pass for 20 yards and AJ Flores snagged a 27-yard pass. Noltkamper and Paulie Windle led the Wildcats’ defense with five tackles. Wyatt McMillian and Paco Leos added four tackles and Noah Halbert recorded the only tackle for loss for Cuba.
The Wildcats have lost five in a row after winning their first game of the year against Linn. Cuba will host its homecoming game on Oct. 10 against St. Vincent at Wildcat Pride Field. Wildcat seniors McMillian, Carnal and Ryan Thompson are Homecoming King candidates, and the winner of king and queen will be announced before the game.
