Bourbon candidates declare for open school, city board seats

Several candidates have declared intentions to run in the April 7, 2026, election for the Bourbon Board of Aldermen and the Crawford County R-1 School District.

City Clerk Cathy Bremer reported on Dec. 12 that two people had filed for the open seats. Current Ward 2 Alderman John Nelson declared for the mayoral seat. Sky Huddleston has filed for Ward 2 Alderman. Alderman Ward 1 seat remains without a candidate, but is currently occupied by Nelson.

Incumbents for the Crawford County R-1 Board of Education have all filed to retain their seats. Positions are currently held by Sean Kaysinger, Ryan Cole and Stephen Waldron.

Each seat comes with a three-year term. Eligible candidates must be 24 years old and have resided in the taxing district and state for at least one year before the election. Those interested in running should file in person with the district secretary at the Administration Building, located at 1444 Old Highway 66, Bourbon.

Filing is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 30 at the Administration Building. Filing will not be available Dec. 22-29 when it is closed for the holidays. The Administration Building will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, the last day of filing.
