Bourbon Park receives two donations

Posted

The Bourbon City Park recently received two donations. Dave and Rhonda Lafferty erected a new pavilion at the entrance to the park. It is a beautiful addition for the public to gather in a comfortable new pavilion. Take time to go up to the park to see this addition.

Sky Huddleston donated a Bourbon Tour Barrel to be installed at the entrance of the Bourbon City Park. The Park Board is appreciative that the city park will now be included in the Bourbon Barrel Tour.

The Park Board Commission met on October 22 to discuss the status of current projects: pickleball fencing, additions for more disc golf stations, the installation of four new benches as well as extending the time for the lights to be on at the basketball court. They also discussed a strategic plan for park improvements which include:  purchasing a picnic table for the play area at the top of the hill, lights for the pickleball court, continue to see if the High School Art Club would repaint the skateboard park, purchase a product to fill in the cracks on the courts and walking trail and continue to monitor a solution for the drainage near the ball diamond area in the park.

The Park Board Commission operates from city budgeting, donations, fundraising and acquisition of grants. The main facet for the fundraising is the memorials and honorarium wall at the pavilion shelter house. Stop up to the park and take a look at this amazing way to honor loved ones. Anyone donating $500 or more in memory or honor of a loved one will find their name on a 10x8 stainless steel plaque. If you like all the continuing park improvements and would like to help out with a tax deductible contribution you can do so by mailing your bequests to Park Projects, 778 Hickory Street, Bourbon, MO 65441 or you can contact any board member. The Park Board accepts donations of any size, small or large, for the continuation of park improvements.

The Bourbon City Park is a great place for family gatherings, reunions, and just fun outside activities. It has existed in its current location since 1967. There are variety of playground pieces, slide, swings, basketball court, frisbee golf, a walking trail as well as shelter picnic areas. If you need to use the shelter house just call the city office and reserve the place for your gathering.

Members of the Bourbon Park Board Commission are Marilyn Wallis, Leonard Armstrong, Janet Sappington, Bob and Francie Rohrer, Kayla Tolliver and Tim Davisl. They are currently looking for a new board member. If you are interested in serving on the park board, please contact any board member. The only requirement is you must live within the city limits.
