Bourbon Elementary School Principal Joe Bozic, on Dec. 18, shared with the Crawford County R-1 Board of Education that over the past three years, his building has improved its APR (Annual Performance Report) scores from 30.3 points to 53.5 points out of a possible 72 points.
“Bourbon Elementary has grown exponentially within the last three years in regard to APR Scores,” said Bozic.
Math IXL assessments from the winter showed improvements from the fall assessments.
STAR Reading assessments also showed improvement from winter to fall tests.
The school showed the most improvement on Early Star Literacy tests. An estimated 80 percent of students scored approaching or higher.
Bozic reported that total enrollment decreased from the previous school year. Total enrollment for the elementary school is 257 students. The report delivered to the board is broken down by grade. Kindergarten has 46 students, first grade has 47 students, second grade has 64 students, third grade has 57 students, and fourth grade has 43 students.
Bozic reported that 23 percent of students from kindergarten to fourth grade are in the Resource Specialist Program (RSP), meaning they receive additional help.
Bozic shared results from his community and climate report that the school had a successful back-to-school bash. The school has had ABC and Balloon parties, kindergarten to second-grade concerts, and Halloween parties.
Family engagement was a constant theme throughout the reports. There was a high percentage of families at Parent Teacher Conferences and there was a movie night for families in the gym and cafeteria.
The school is also working with the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) program.
“The data teams were praised for the amount of work completed in a short time,” said Bozic.
The school is also working with Bryan Rush of Team Builders Academy, LLC., for professional development.
