We are happy to have the rain. Remember to set your clocks back next Sunday. Sunset will be earlier, so watch out for children on the roads. The United Women of Faith will meet Tuesday, November 4 at 10:30 a.m. We are having a veteran’s memorial service Sunday, November 9. We are collecting for the Christmas Shoebox project again this year. Boxes are due November 16. We are participating in the community dinner with the Bourbon Ministerial Alliance on November 23 at the Bourbon Community Center. We continue our weekly support of the Teddy Bear Back Pack program. Donations of Ramen noodles are always welcomed. We are collecting hats, gloves and non-perishable foods for the Bourbon School District.
Sunday’s scripture reading, by Pastor Todd Holman, was Luke 18:9-14. The tax collectors of Jesus’ day were not reputable. But, in this story, they come off as heroes. One asking God to be merciful to him, a sinner. He knew he had some room to grow. Jesus likes sinners because they do not look down on others. Pride causes us to look down on others. Sinners know that they must depend on God for their salvation; Justification by faith. We are saved by grace. God’s love is freely given. The scripture says we are all sinners. We have no room to brag. None of us are righteous. That’s why we need God. It was for sinners that God died on the cross. Help us to love like Jesus.
You are invited to join us for Sunday worship service at 9 a.m.
