Kathy Margaret Summers of Bourbon, Missouri was born on December 19, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward and Emma Jane (Comfort) Dunn and passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the age of 78 years.

She grew up in Bourbon and graduated with the Class of 1965. Following high school, she attended beauty school in Rolla, Missouri.

On August 17, 1968, Kathy married James Summers. They raised their family in Bourbon on what jokingly became known as the “Summers Family Compound,” where, over the years, the family just kept building homes a little closer together.

Kathy was a homemaker and later worked for the Bourbon School District in various roles. She also volunteered at the Bourbon Thrift Store.

She loved sewing, quilting and reading. She enjoyed her chickens and birdwatching, and was known for her wonderful cocoa cake and fudge. She hosted Thanksgiving for her family. She made blankets and quilts for grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She attended First Baptist Church of Bourbon for many years before she moved her membership to First United Methodist Church of Bourbon in 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Summers; parents, Edward and Emma Jane Dunn; brother, Harry Dunn and wife Janice; niece, Joi Dunn; and in-laws, Geraldine Reiner and husband William.

She is survived by her children, Michael Summers and wife Kristina of Sullivan, Missouri, Laurie Boyer and husband James of Bourbon, Missouri and Rachel Licklider and husband Lance of Bourbon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lane Licklider and significant other Taya Ramsey of Bourbon, Missouri, Krista Brewer and husband Isaiah of Bourbon, Missouri, Terrina Whaley and husband Brady of Fort Riley, Kansas, Jayson, Dalton and Nicholas Summers of Sullivan, Missouri; six great grandchildren, Ashton, Ledger, Henry, Caroline, Hunter and Riley; siblings: Richard Dunn and wife Beveleen of Springfield, Missouri, David Dunn and wife Charlotte of Bourbon, Missouri, Paul Dunn and wife Faith of Bourbon, Missouri, Pat Dunn and wife Judy of Rolla, Missouri and Susan Treece and husband Ernest of Leasburg, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon, Missouri.

Remembrance Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. on September 25, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Todd Holman officiating.
