Non-resident Cathy Alexander claimed on July 21 that Bourbon Mayor Sky Huddleston was illegally elected because he allegedly signed an affidavit saying that he didn’t owe any taxes when he ran for office, but he did.
City Attorney Sarah Messex said that she would review the information that Alexander alleges proves the mayor ran illegally, and get back to her.
Alexander also said that Huddleston put down Liberator Rocket Heater, his business, as his place of residence, but that he can’t reside in a commercial building unless it’s designated for mixed use. Messex wasn’t familiar with a law that says a property must be deemed mixed-use or residential to live in it.
“I don’t know that law, so if you can produce that to me, making it seem, say, that you “must live,” and make sure it doesn’t say “may.” Make sure it says “must live” in a mixed structure,” Messex said.
As part of the documents that Alexander presented, Messex added that Reddit is not a proper place to research the law.
“I certainly know that the law is not what you’re stating it is from Reddit,” Messex said. “I would prefer an actual legal statute.”
