Jones, Johnson named Bourbon homecoming king, queen

Ian Jones and Skye Johnson were named homecoming king and queen during a ceremony held on Friday night at Bourbon High School. Johnson was one of four Bourbon seniors who were candidates for homecoming queen.  

The coronation ceremonies took place in between the junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball games on Feb. 6 against St. Paul Lutheran High School. The original ceremonies were postponed from Jan. 30 due to the inclement weather.

Retiring king and queen Titus Nolie and Valeria Paz Martinez were in attendance and passed the torch and the crowns to Jones and Johnson. Jayda Gargus and Harper Bridgeman were crown bearers and were escorted by Grayson Kotila and Finn Payne, respectively. 

Johnson is the daughter of Tina Brinson and Mike Johnson. Her high school activities include pep club for four years, BETA for three years, cheer captain and STUCO for one year. 

Jones is the son of Timothy and Michelle Jones. His high school activities include basketball for one year. 

The other senior candidates were Kaitlin King, Piper Sykes and Addie Studeny. The ceremony also featured one junior, one sophomore and one freshman attendant. 

King is the daughter of Doug and Brandi King. Her high school activities include volleyball, basketball, BETA, FFA, Pep club for four years, track, MSHSAA student advisory committee for two years, track manager and Stuco for one year.

King was escorted by Chase Perschbacher. He is the son of Michael and Raelea Perschbacher. His high school activities include baseball for four years and basketball for two years.

Sykes is the daughter of Sam and Betsy Sykes. Her high school activities include FFA, volleyball, BETA, Class President for four years, Pep Club for three years, track and student council for one year. 

Sykes was escorted by Manny Webster. He is the son of Jenny Webster. His high school activities include FFA for four years and class officer for two years. 

Studeny is the daughter of Allan and Felicia Studeny. Her high school activities include pep club, cheer, FFA and FFA officer for four years, BETA, RTC for two years, cheer captain and volleyball for one year.

Studeny was escorted by Ethan Williamson. He is the son of Lance and Michelle Williamson. His high school activities include track and field, BETA for four years, Science Olympiad, scholar bowl, band, Stuco for three years, class vice president for two years and FTA for one year. 

Hailie Kahmke was the junior class attendant. She is the daughter of Gina Kahmke and Ricky Johnson. Her high school activities include volleyball for three years and FFA and softball for two years. 

Kahmke was escorted by Tariq Moore. He is the son of Ronnie and Alexia Moore. His high school activities include basketball, baseball, band for two years and FBLA for one year. 

Emilia Sykes was the sophomore class attendant. She is the daughter of Sam and Betsy Sykes. Her high school activities include FFA for two years, volleyball manager, FBLA, BETA and Pep club for one year. 

Sykes was escorted by Dawson King. He is the son of Doug and Brandi King. His high school activities include basketball, baseball and Beta for two years.

Brianna Bouse was the freshmen class attendant. She is the daughter of Brock and Becky Bouse. Her high school activities include volleyball, basketball, softball, BETA, FFA and Stuco.

Bouse was escorted by Joseph Woods. He is the son of Robert and Nichole Woods. His high school activities include basketball for three years, track and FFA for one year. 

Bourbon High School students participated in Homecoming Spirit Week, dressing in a different theme each day leading up until Friday’s ceremony. The overall theme of spirit week and Homecoming was 90’s in neon. Students also enjoyed the annual homecoming dance on Friday night following the final buzzer of the boys’ varsity basketball game.
