Wanda Jean Henry

Wanda Jean Henry was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Steelville, Missouri and passed away May 7, 2026 at the age of 97 years.

She attended Cuba schools and was valedictorian of the class of 1946. She continued her education at State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri.

She married Joseph Henry in 1947.

In 1968, Wanda returned to the workforce, working as a secretary in the Springfield Public Schools, where she served until her retirement in 1992.

She attended Second Baptist Church and later Graceway Baptist Church.

She enjoyed ballroom dancing, water aerobics and tending to her yard. She was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and supported the Springfield Lions Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willett Starnes and Hazel and Manson Munro; husband, Joseph "Joe" Henry; sister, Mary Jane Bogoger-Munro; and brother, Rudy Munro.

She is survived by three sons, Chris Henry and wife Dianne of Springfield, Missouri, Pat Henry and wife Lu of Seymour, Missouri and Rex Henry and wife Joni of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, Missouri.

Burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
